I was unable to complete my Leaving Certificate due to health complications, but I really wanted to progress onto Further and Higher Education. My secondary school Guidance Counsellor recommended Greenhills CC. The things that really stood out for me about this course were: 1. my amazing and supportive teachers, 2. getting the opportunity to travel to and work in Malaga for two weeks as part of Greenhills’ Erasmus+ Programme 2023. This is something I never would have been able to do without the help, support, guidance, and funding from Greenhills and the Erasmus+ Project. 3. Access to disability accommodations that I did not get in mainstream secondary school. Without these supports, I would not have been able to complete the course.I am currently a Junior Freshman (1st Year) at Trinity College Dublin studying Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology. I found the research techniques I developed studying the modules to be extremely useful. I really enjoyed all the modules; I was so intrigued by the subjects and I had a lot of fun in class. Across all my modules, learning how to write academically, avoid plagiarism, and organise a bibliography is serving me well at Third Level. My time at Greenhills served as a gateway into my dream course at Third Level that I never thought I’d have the opportunity to apply for due to not having the right supports in secondary school. The information we learn and the skills we develop are far more applicable to life and Higher Education than what we learn in mainstream school. Going into first year at TCD after having completed a PLC at Greenhills, I feel far more prepared to write assignments, participate in lectures and seminars, and sit examinations.
Lucy Iloduba. Progressed to study Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology at Trinity College Dublin.
I would definitely recommend a course at Greenhills College to a friend or family member especially if they want to go to college afterwards because I think going to college straight from secondary school is a huge jump. Whereas if you take a year to do a course that leads into whatever career sector you want to do, you gain so much experience and knowledge. For example, thanks to Greenhills my course I now know how to reference, use Word, the standard assignments should be and so much more.I also know that I will really enjoy history in college as I completed the module history this year. But if I had gone straight into college this year I personally think I would have been lost and confused. After completing this course I feel ready and confident going into college. I hope to get an offer to study at DCU.
