Counselling Foundation Certificate (Level 5)

This course provides a foundation in Counselling for students who wish to progress to study Counselling or a course from a related field at Level 6 or higher. The course is a starting point to help participants develop the specialised skills required to become a professional Counsellor. Participants will learn many useful skills such as active listening, empathy and self-awareness that are of benefit to people in any career sector that involves dealing with members of the public.

Entry Requirements

  • Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied Programme, QQI Level 4 full major award or equivalent.
  • Work/life experience may be acceptable for mature students.
  • Students should be 16 years old or over at the start of the course.
  • Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject area and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
  • Competent written and spoken English (CEFR B1 or higher).
  • Garda vetting clearance is required for all students taking this course.
